Plate Shop

Plate shop equipment consists of two shears, two press brakes, a saw, an ironworker and a small plate roll. This department routinely cuts and forms martial up to sixteen feet long and one half inch thick. While shearing is a low tech relatively old fashioned method of cutting, none of the newer high tech machines can compete with a metal shear for producing simple straight sided parts. The press brakes, which bend parts either sheared or cut by the laser, are capable of forming very complex shapes. At this time, sophisticated punching and heavy rolling and forming are farmed out to other shops.
